I think there is a purpose for this blog- namely, to glorify God

I read John 9 this morning, and a few things jumped out at me- namely, the growth exhibited in the blind ma. God works in such amazing ways, first in v. 7, when He tells the man to go to the pool of Siloam to wash the dirt from his eyes, This man needed to step out in faith before he was able to be healed. Jesus explains in v. 3-4 that it wasn’t the sin of this man or his parents that caused him to be blind, but he was so a miracle could occur, and God could be glorified. This is basis for so many unfortunate things that happen today–there is a reason that God has them to happen, because He is planning to get glorified in some way!

The Pharisees can’t stop questioning the blind man, even though the man does not know where Jesus is; the keep complaining He healed on the Sabbath. The blind man explains at this point that he thinks that Jesus “is a phorphet” (v. 17)

The Jews were so blinded by their disbelief that they actually had to call in the man’s parents to prove he had been blind from birth! (v. 18). C’mon, this just shows how you pretty much need more faith to not believe in Christ than to believe in Him! They went through all of this work, and in the end, they just found out he really was blind.

What upsets me is the response the parents give to the Jewish leaders: “But how he can see now, or who opened his eyes, we don’t know. Ask him. He is of age; he will speak for himself.” (v. 21). They feared being thrown out of the synagogue for speaking of Jesus as the Christ (v 22), so pretty much played dumb. If my son was healed, I’d be jumping in the streets, and running around trying to thank the person that had done this. However, perhaps they believed in Jesus, but, were afraid to tell the Pharisees

Here comes the blind man’s growth; he goes from

-believing Jesus is a prophet (v 17)
-Doesn’t know whether Jesus is a sinner or not, but was able to do this miracle (v. 25)
- Acknowledging that without Christ , Jesus could do nothing: “We know that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the gdly man wh des his will. Nobody has ever heard of opening the eyes f a man born blind. If this man were not from God, He could do nothing” (v 30-33)
-
Comes to Christ:
“Do you believe in the son of man”
“Who is he sir? Tell me so that I may believe in Him”
“You have now seen him; in fact, he is the one speaking with you”
“Lord I believe,” and he worshipped him. (v. 35-38)

Last, Jesus talks of spiritual blindness, of the Pharisees, but, people in general:
“If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains” (v. 41)
Once someone is introduced to God, in any way, choosing to not follow him causes this guilt and blindness. Spiritual blindness is a very scary thing because one thinks one is following God and His word, but, really is not. The fact that the Pharisees were demanding that they were saved and holier than thou Christians showed they knew Christ, but really dot not know Him personally or His teachings.
